The Dean’s List: Top Five Holiday Traditions

December 6, 2022

Sandeep Mazumder, dean at Baylor University's Hankamer School of Business, loves spending the holidays with his family. He shared a list of the top five holiday traditions to keep the magic alive during Christmas.

  1. Operation Christmas Child
My kids enjoy shopping for Christmas gifts for other children when packing their shoeboxes for this excellent annual initiative.
  2. Making Santa traps
Each year my kids try to devise unique ways to trap Santa when he is doing his Christmas Eve deliveries. They like to use me for the test run, and I routinely trip their alarms! However, they have not yet succeeded in catching St. Nick himself.
  3. Eggnog
My kids and I are big eggnog fans — my wife isn't, so we will purchase eggnog from the grocery store as soon as they start selling it.
  4. Putting up decorations as a family
In our household, we tend to put up our Christmas tree and lights early. We usually aim for right after Thanksgiving, but the truth is there have been many occasions when we did our Christmas decorations a few days before Thanksgiving too!
  5. Watching Christmas movies as a family
We have some regulars that we like to watch, including "It's a Wonderful Life," "The Santa Clause" and "Elf."
