HSB Doctoral Student Receives Research Award

November 8, 2022

Sean Dwyer, a PhD candidate in the Department of Entrepreneurship and Corporate Innovation, received the Outstanding Graduate Student Research Award in the Social Science category for the 2021-2022 academic year.

The Outstanding Graduate Student Research Award was started in 2019 to promote graduate students’ research productivity and is open to any doctoral or MFA graduate student who has completed their candidacy requirements. This annual award is given in three categories, including STEM, Humanities and Social Science, where award winners receive public recognition from the Graduate School, an award plaque and a travel award to either a conference or travel for dissertation research of the student’s choosing.

Dwyer credits his success to the privilege of working with many of the professors in the Hankamer School of Business. The faculty truly exemplified Baylor University’s mission of integrating academic excellence and Christian commitment within a caring community, he said.

“One of the best pieces of advice that I received from a former doctoral student concerning our research is to ‘pray’ about our research because God cares so much about our work as scholars,” Dwyer said, referencing Colossians 3:17. “I have taken this encouragement that I received to heart during my time here at Baylor, so I cannot receive this award without first sharing this.”

Dwyer is grateful for the support shown by his professors, as well as other faculty and staff at the Business School.
