Baylor University’s Hankamer School of Business will offer a new Certificate in Global Business beginning the fall 2024 semester.

The certificate will help enhance students’ business education through globally relevant courses and a global business engagement activity. Dawn Carlson, director of the McBride Center for International Business, hopes the certificate will show prospective employers that students are on the road to worldwide leadership.

“Our world is more connected than ever before and having a global perspective on business upon graduation can truly set you apart from other candidates,” Carlson said. “We are excited to offer another opportunity for students to gain international experience and demonstrate cross-cultural competency to help them navigate the increasingly connected world of business both domestically and internationally.”

Students must take 12 hours from a select list of courses and participate in a global business engagement activity, such as a study abroad, international internship or Business as Mission. This certificate encourages all business majors to experience business globally and extends their learning back on campus when they return.

The new certificate is a complement to any business major. Many of the courses for the certificate will also count toward major requirements, Carlson said, meaning the certificate should not add additional hours to a student’s program or delay graduation. Some courses do have prerequisites, however, so Carlson suggests visiting with an academic advisor to build a plan to complete the requirements.

“The Certificate in Global Business encourages students to take the ‘next step’ in learning and growing in their understanding of business across the world,” Sam Binkley, the associate director for curriculum management, said. “The Business School understands the importance of having a global perspective, and we want students to know how seamless it is to add this into their programs. We are incredibly lucky to have the support of our administration and a wide variety of opportunities to achieve this.”
