Certificate in Global Business

Add a global element to your business education by earning a Certificate in Global Business. This business-focused path helps you enhance your major area of study and requires 12 hours of globally relevant courses and one global business engagement activity. The Certificate in Global Business shows prospective employers you have a global perspective and are on the road to worldwide leadership. If you have studied abroad or have taken international business classes at Baylor, you have already met a requirement for the certificate!

Certificate Requirements

Global Business Engagement Activity

Complete 1 activity, such as 

  • Baylor business study abroad 
  • Baylor exchange partner
  • International internship 
  • HSB business as mission trip
  • BEST international trip 
  • Working with a business faculty as a UGRA on a global research project (2 semesters) 

Required Course 

Earn 3 credit hours from any one of the following:

  • BUS 3330  -  Business Communication and Practices Across Cultures 
  • INB 3333/MGT 3335  -  Doing Business Across Cultures 
  • INB 3305  -  Global Business 
  • BUS 4380 or 4385  -  BEST Courses 
  • BUS 4396  -  Study Abroad Internship in Business 

Elective Courses 

Take any of the following courses for a total of 9 credit hours: 

  • Any business course taken on a Baylor study-abroad program (up to 6 credits) 
  • BUS 4396 – Study Abroad Internship in Business 
  • Any HSB course with a COIL designation (up to 9 credits) 
  • Any of the following HSB discipline-specific global courses (up to 9 credits): 
    • ACC/BL – BL/INB 4320, BL/INB 4345 

    • BUS – BUS 3330, BUS 4380, BUS 4385 (BEST section)

    • ECO – ECO 3331, ECO/INB 4333, ECO/INB 4334

    • ENT – ENT/INB 3350, ENT 3380, ENT 4353

    • FIN – FIN/INB 4331

    • INB – INB 3305, INB 3332, INB 4398

    • MGT – MGT 3335/INB 3333, MGT 4345

    • MKT – MKT 4325/INB 4325

Certificate in Global Business FAQs

1. Why should I add the Certificate in Global Business to my degree plan?

A Certificate in Global Business will appear on your transcript and enhance your competitiveness in the job market by demonstrating international experience and cross-cultural competency, appealing to employers seeking candidates with a global mindset. 

2. Can the courses I take for my major count toward the certificate?

Yes! Courses can count toward both your major and certificate.

3. Can I work toward the certificate before being admitted to the business school?

Absolutely, you can meet these requirements at any time in your academic career.

4. What if I take BUS 3330 twice?

If you take it multiple times, BUS 3330 can count for your required and elective credit.

5. What is the difference between the Certificate in Global Business and the Certificate in Global Engagement?

The Certificate in Global Business aligns with other certificates in the business school and is primarily focused on curricular global business requirements.  The Certificate in Global Engagement consists of curricular and co-curricular requirements you can meet across the university—not just in the business school.

6. What is the difference between this certificate and the international business major?

The Certificate in Global Business requires a global business engagement activity. Also, fewer courses are required, and a wider range of courses count toward the certificate. International business is a second major with a strong economics focus.

7. Are there any prerequisites for enrolling in the certificate program?

There are no specific prerequisites for the Global Business Certificate. However, certain courses may have prerequisites that you need to fulfill.

8. Is there a deadline for completing the certificate requirements?

While there is no strict deadline, we recommend planning your coursework with your academic advisor to complete the certificate requirements before your graduation date.
