Celebrating Excellence

January 29, 2025

At Baylor University’s Hankamer School of Business (HSB), faculty members are shaping the future by inspiring students through innovative teaching and heartfelt mentorship. This year, three outstanding educators have been recognized for their exceptional contributions in and out of the classroom. From fostering global engagement and experiential learning to embodying Christ-like discipleship and integrating biblical principles into organizational studies, these honorees exemplify the impact of teaching with purpose and passion.

Headshot of John White

Robin and Mark Howard Early Career Teaching Excellence Award (Clinical/Lecturer) and Phi Kappa Chi Light Your World Award

Professor John White began teaching full-time at Baylor in the spring of 2022, following a 33-year career in sales, service and marketing at General Motors. While his students appreciate the experience he brings into the classroom, he is most recognized for getting to know each one of them before the first day of class and beyond. His motive is that they are each wonderfully made in the image of God and, therefore, he should know them by name when they arrive. This spring’s awards were based on students’ commentaries that he is demonstrating a Christ-like discipleship through his interactions with them.

Headshot of Stephanie Kunst

Robin & Mark Howard Early Career Teaching Award (Tenure-Track)

Stephanie Kunst, PhD, challenges her students through a “flipped” classroom structure to actively engage with course material and apply the concepts they are learning to their experiences with social systems in organizations. Students appreciate her focus on elevating their understanding of course material through hands-on experiences in the classroom and the way she integrates biblical principles with her teaching on organizational behavior to highlight how day-to-day interactions in organizations are an opportunity to be salt and light (Matthew 5:13-16).
