Innovative Experiences
- International residency - Global Strategy: Building and Sustaining Competitive Advantage – Led by Gary Carini, PhD, in April 2025, students traveled to Buenos Aires, Argentina, and Santiago, Chile, to learn about global strategy in a real-world context. Students met with business leaders from a multitude of organizations including YPF, Industrias Guidi, Horizontal Chile, ENGIE and Fundacion Mi Parque. The international residency comes at the end of the Executive MBA program and serves as a capstone to tie everything together. One student mentioned,
The variety and quality of the company visits was exceptional and a perfect capstone experience for my EMBA journey. It was informative, offered wide perspectives to challenge critical thinking, and was a socially meaningful time together – cementing seeds for life-long relationships.
- Washington, D.C., Residency – Government, Business, and Societal Impact – Led by Patsy Norman, PhD, in June 2025, students were exposed to the intersection of business, public policy, and societal issues. This helped them develop a more global perspective on how these issues influence business strategy and leadership decision-making. Students got to take a tour of the U.S. Capitol led by former Texas Representative Jack Fields and observe congressional hearings. A sampling of speakers and topics included:
- Mike Lord, PhD – President of The Washington Campus – Strategically Managing Business, Public Affairs, and Public Policy
- Edward Buckley – Senior Vice President, Cyber & Emerging Tech Public Policy for Bank of America – Cybersecurity Policy: Key Challenges Facing Business & Government
- Amy Best Weiss – Executive Vice President & Head of Global Government Affairs, American Express – Corporate Strategy & Business-Government Relations: Financial Services
In reflecting on the experience, one student said,
I want to start by saying thank you for allowing us this opportunity to experience what most will never get the chance to see. This trip was one that has impacted me in a multitude of ways and will change not only how I think about topics, but also how I act. Overall, this trip has demonstrated that we need to have awareness of how things are being accomplished in our country as well as who the day-to-day impact players are. If we stay aware of these things, we will be better able to utilize them to positively influence our own industries and make changes that we hope to see.
- Baylor in Texas residency – Entrepreneurship and Corporate Innovation – Led by Patsy Norman, PhD, in September 2025, this residency helped students learn how corporations foster innovation at all stages of a product’s life cycle as well as within their processes and business models. A highlight of the trip was a day trip to Austin, where students visited three businesses: Tesla, Rackspace and Google. A special thanks to the following leaders who engaged with our students:
- Tesla – Scott Bodjack (Senior Manager of Product Launch Engineering) and Chris Barchet (Director of North America Vehicle Service)
- Rackspace – Jason Wicker (Chief Technology Officer)
- Google – Andrew Gates (Cloud Customer Engineer)
One student said,
Tesla showed us firsthand what remarkable, fast-paced innovation looks like. Google introduced us to new tools that empower us to build apps and leverage AI to augment our own abilities. And Rackspace gave us the reminder to pause, carefully weigh the risks of AI, and adopt it slowly and responsibly. Each stop left us inspired in different ways, broadening how we think about leadership in this moment of rapid change.
