HSB Celebrates Collegiate Day of Prayer
Baylor University’s Hankamer School of Business (HSB) participated in the Collegiate Day of Prayer on Thursday, Feb. 27.
For the second consecutive year, HSB organized a prayer room at the Paul L. Foster Campus for Business and Innovation where faculty, staff, students and friends could pray, reflect and meditate on God’s Word.
“This was such an opportune time for us to come before God, individually to purify our hearts and collectively as a community to seek God’s will and guidance,” said Cindy Wu, PhD, the associate dean for Community and Belonging at HSB. “As image bearers of God, we reflected God’s glory and beauty at this prayer gathering. It reminded us that everything we do matters to God and that we are connected with each other and the world.”
The prayer room featured four stations for visitors to participate in prayer, named the “Bear Prayers.” The first station, “Bear,” allowed participants to bear witness to God’s forgiveness and restoration by kneeling at a cross in confessional prayer and by meditating on God’s character. The second station, “Engage,” invited participants to pray for the countries where HSB faculty, staff and students were from, as well as where HSB had conducted a mission or study abroad trip.
The third station, “Adore and Apply,” included four Bibles where visitors could highlight their favorite verses and use them to pray for themselves and others. The fourth station, “Resolve,” had visitors pray over the various departments, centers and institutes at the Business School and challenged them to be Christ’s ambassador in whatever area God called them to be in. Attendees were invited to write out prayer requests for themselves and for the Business School, which were collected and prayed over by the HSB Prayer Team.
“Faith and business are not separate pursuits but deeply connected callings,” said Sandeep Mazumder, PhD, the William E. Crenshaw Endowed Dean of the Business School. “Prayer grounds us in wisdom, strengthens our leadership and reminds us that true success is found in service to others. These activities serve as an opportunity to unite as a community, seeking God’s guidance for our students, faculty and staff, and the future of business.”
The activities ended with a worship service in the Foster Atrium, as faculty, staff and students gathered on each level of the Foster Campus to sing with each other. Dean Mazumder, Jacob Neubert, BBA ’13, and senior David Jabour led those in attendance in prayer.
The Collegiate Day of Prayer is a global dedication to praying for colleges and universities across the world. It takes place on the last Thursday of February and features a live-streamed event including worship, prayer and messages from Christian leaders. Baylor served as the 2024 host site, with Texas A&M University hosting in 2025.
