Attendees at the 2024 National Collegiate Digital Marketing Championships

Baylor University’s Hankamer School of Business will host two national competitions showcasing college students’ business skills.

The National Collegiate Digital Marketing Championship will take place on April 1, while the inaugural National Collegiate Consulting Championship is set for March 31-April 1. Both events provide competitors a chance to put their skills to the test in front of recruiters.

“These competitions mimic postseason sports tournaments in their bracket-style format, fierce engagement from participants, and the chance for any student from any school to take the spotlight by thinking critically, adapting quickly and applying their knowledge in real-world scenarios,” said Kirk Wakefield, PhD, the executive director of the Center for Sales Strategy in Sports and Entertainment. “It’s an opportunity made possible by support and leadership from Professors Chris Pullig, Emily Hunter and Michael Wright.”

Each competition brings undergraduate students from across the United States to flex their skills through a series of contests inspired by real-world situations. “Presentation Pro” requires students to role-play as consultants or digital marketers, respectively, running recap meetings with professionals playing the client role. “Quantum Quiz” pits students against each other in a high-speed knowledge race, with a marathon and tournament division. “Viral” has students engage in an interactive social media game where quick decisions in a crowd determine who advances.

Each event offers a unique way for competitors to shine while tackling challenges reflective of today’s business landscape, Wakefield said.

“It’s more than just a showdown,” he said. “It’s a platform for ambitious students to connect with industry professionals, showcase their abilities and potentially kickstart their careers.”

The field for the digital marketing competition includes Baylor, Ohio State University, the University of Texas at Austin, the University of Kansas, Kansas State University, Louisiana State University, the University of Florida, Florida State University, Lipscomb University, Southwestern University, the University of Dayton, the University of Missouri, the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, Samford University, the University of Central Oklahoma, the University of North Georgia, the University of Texas at San Antonio, Mercyhurst University, Dallas Baptist University, Texas Women’s University and the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor.

The consulting championship includes competitors from Baylor, Dayton, Kansas, the University of Houston, Southern Methodist University, the University of Texas at Dallas, Houston Christian University and St. Mary’s University.

“By participating in this championship, students gain valuable experience, enhance their skills and display their talents for industry professionals,” Wakefield said.
