Graduate Business Association students - Fall 2025

The Graduate Business Association (GBA) is a student-run organization made up of members from the graduate business programs. Its mission is to enhance the experiences of both current and future students by assisting with orientation activities, organizing community service events, supporting student projects and initiatives, sponsoring social gatherings and fostering alumni networking opportunities.

We sat down with Chelsea Derry, associate director of graduate student services and academic advisor, and Marco Di Laudo, GBA president, to dive deeper into the impact of GBA. Below, they share how the organization supports students, strengthens community and creates meaningful opportunities throughout the graduate business experience.

What is GBA and how does it benefit MBA students?

CD: The Graduate Business Association (GBA) is a student-run organization composed of members from Baylor’s graduate business programs. Its mission is to enhance the student experience outside the classroom by:

  • Assisting with orientation activities
  • Organizing community service and social events
  • Supporting student-led initiatives
  • Facilitating alumni networking

The GBA fosters a sense of community among students, encourages school spirit, and helps build lasting connections across cohorts and programs

What are a few things GBA does throughout the year?

CD: Each semester, GBA hosts a variety of events, including:

  • Alumni mixers and tailgate tents
  • Holiday celebrations and semester-end parties
  • Community service projects and Baylor-wide engagements like Homecoming
  • Grad lounge enhancements (snacks, beverages, and pop-up events)

These activities are designed to help students unwind, connect, and engage with the broader Baylor community

What leadership and resume-building opportunities does GBA provide?

CD: Serving in the GBA provides students with valuable leadership experience and resume-building opportunities, including demonstrating initiative beyond academics, gaining hands-on experience in event planning, budgeting, and team coordination, leading projects and representing student interests, and developing habits and skills essential for professional success, such as financial planning and stakeholder engagement.

Can you describe your role within GBA?

MDL: I am an MBA/MSIS dual degree candidate and have the privilege of serving as the president of Baylor’s GBA. In this role, I work alongside a board of dedicated student leaders to advocate for our peers, oversee budget allocations and ensure that the graduate business experience is as enriching and impactful as possible.

What led you to get involved in this organization?

MDL: When I originally got involved with GBA, I wanted to challenge myself to step into a role where I could truly advocate for students across our graduate programs. GBA offered a platform to make sure students not only felt supported but also received the value they deserve from their time at Baylor.

How has your involvement with GBA helped you grow as a leader?

MDL: My involvement has been an invaluable opportunity to grow as a leader. Through directing initiatives, managing resources and collaborating closely with fellow student executives who share a strong commitment to service and impact, I’ve been able to make a meaningful contribution to enhancing the graduate student experience at Baylor.

How does GBA benefit graduate business students?

MDL: GBA gives students an invaluable opportunity to leave a lasting mark on Baylor’s graduate community. It allows members to showcase the incredible resources and opportunities our programs provide, while also creating new ones that build on what it means to be a Bear.

What else can students gain from being involved in the GBA?

MDL: Beyond professional development, GBA fosters lifelong friendships and builds a sense of community that makes our time here unforgettable. It’s also a chance to step up and act on the changes you’d like to see, ensuring that future students benefit from the foundation you help create. Whether you want to build your leadership skills, expand your network or simply make a difference, GBA gives you the tools and support to do so.
