Christoph Henle: Career Support and Networking
End-to-End Career Support That Extends Beyond Graduation
The Career Center was such a tremendous asset in my corner during my interview process as a soon-to-be graduate and is still a place that helps me today years after graduating. What I love about the Career Center is that it wasn’t just “one thing” that they helped me with. It was truly a full cycle experience, from resume and interview prep, finding industries and firms, networking all the way to salary negotiations.
They did an especially phenomenal job connecting me with Baylor alumni in industry and companies that I had high interest in. It would have been virtually impossible to find that many Baylor alumni, and Baylor MBA alumni specifically. Being able to have a personal introduction just goes that much further and opens many more doors.
Career Resources That Turn Connections Into Opportunities
The one tool that was specifically useful for me was CareerShift. Being able to just click on industries or companies and finding lists of alumni at those specific organizations was incredibly helpful. The Career Center team did an incredible job teaching us the importance of LinkedIn, how it can be leveraged as a networking tool, but also how important it is to build a personal brand. An impactful interviewing tool that I got to learn was the S.T.A.R. story method (Situation-Task-Action-Result). The tool helped me develop my storytelling skills and deliver structured answers to behavioral questions, which is very important in an interview.
Career Staff Who Truly Understand Your Professional Goals
I have felt that the staff at the Career Center have understood my goals and aspirations for my career. I spent a lot of time with their staff and was able to get to know them and vice versa, they got to know me. They knew that consulting firms would want to know a lot more about project-based classes and that my resume and interview answers would have to reflect that.
Strategic Networking That Makes the Difference
The Career Center was able to connect me with a Partner at the firm I ended up working for full-time. Often times all it takes is a warm introduction!
The More You Invest, the More You Gain
The advice I give to all incoming MBA students is that it’s your job and responsibility as a student to engage with the Career Center and their support. They will give you as much support and help as you seek and ask for. The more time you spend with the staff there, the more you use their advice and tools, the more successful you will be.
