HSB Announces New ISBA Chair
Baylor University’s Hankamer School of Business (HSB) announced Dr. Daniel Chen as the new chair of the Department of Information Systems and Business Analytics.
Dr. Chen holds the Mr. and Mrs. Randall W. Ferguson (Sandra) Professorship of Information Systems. A respected scholar in information systems, Chen’s work aligns closely with the growing influence of artificial intelligence (AI) and data analytics across industries. His leadership comes at a time when HSB is deepening its investment in these areas, both in the classroom and through research and industry engagement.
“As AI and data analytics continue to transform the business landscape, the importance of strong leadership in information systems has never been greater,” said Dr. David M. Szymanski, the William E. Crenshaw Endowed Dean of the Business School. “Dr. Chen is well prepared to lead this department with clarity and vision, advancing our commitment to excellence in teaching, research and meaningful industry collaboration.”
Dr. Chen earned his PhD in Business Administration from the University of Georgia in 2004. He joined the faculty at Texas Christian University’s Neeley School of Business in August 2004 before arriving at Baylor in July 2023.
“I am honored to serve as department chair of the Department of Information Systems and Business Analytics and deeply appreciate the confidence and support of Dean Szymanski and my colleagues in this appointment,” Dr. Chen said. “In alignment with the values of the Hankamer School of Business, I look forward to working closely with our faculty, staff and students to foster a collaborative and supportive environment that advances impactful research, excellent teaching and the development of principled leaders who serve both the business community and society.”
Dr. Chen replaces Dr. Jonathan Trower, who led the department for more than 10 years.
