The Hankamer Scholars Program will be renamed the Baylor Business Scholars Program beginning the fall 2024 semester.

The Business Scholars Program, which began in the fall of 2021, is an accelerated experience designed for high-ability, business-focused students. The name change will more appropriately reflect the program’s emphasis on business, Associate Dean of Undergraduate Programs Brad Lail, PhD, said.

“As we continue in our efforts to recruit high-ability students to the Hankamer School of Business, we want to ensure students choose the program that aligns with their academic and career goals,” Lail said. “This change allows us to better position an already outstanding program to our incoming students.”

Lail noted efforts made across the Business School to enhance the development of HSB students, particularly Holly Jahrmarkt, the Business Scholars Program manager.

Participating students display high academic achievement, hold outstanding ACT and SAT scores, have active extracurricular activity and possess strong leadership skills. The program has already graduated 12 students—one in December 2023 and 11 in May 2024. This accomplishment further demonstrates the level of high-ability students in the Scholars Program, said Sandeep Mazumder, PhD, the William E. Crenshaw Endowed Dean of the Business School.

“The students in the Business Scholars Program have exceeded our expectations,” Mazumder said. “Not only have they succeeded academically, but they have established themselves as leaders within the Business School and in the community.”
