Army-Baylor MHA/MBA Students Excel in Case Competitions
The Army-Baylor MHA/MBA program continues to provide invaluable opportunities for students to apply their skills and knowledge in real-world healthcare management scenarios. This year, our students participated in three prestigious national case competitions, showcasing their expertise, leadership and innovation. These competitions, which include the UCLA Center for Healthcare Management Case Competition, the Healthcare PRISm Pitch Competition and the UAB Health Administration Case Competition, are integral to the student learning experience, offering team-based activities that require students to synthesize and apply their academic learning. The real-world case-based scenarios presented in these competitions promote competency development while providing networking opportunities for students to interact with peers from other graduate programs across the country.
As part of their International Business course requirement, Army-Baylor students competed in the prestigious UCLA Center for Healthcare Management Case Competition. Congratulations to John Miller, Maj. Dominique Scutella, Maj. Colleen O’Conner and Capt. Joshua Melton, whose case analysis was selected as one of the top eight submissions out of 72 nationwide, an incredible achievement that earned them the opportunity to present their innovative solutions to a panel of UCLA Health Executive judges in Los Angeles at the end of January 2025. The team’s exceptional performance earned them third place in the final competition!
Army-Baylor MHA/MBA students demonstrated exceptional leadership, innovation and strategic thinking at the 2025 Healthcare PRISm Pitch Competition, hosted by Trinity University. The competition attracted 40 teams from universities nationwide, with the top 16 advancing to the Bracket Round. A total of 12 Army-Baylor teams participated, showcasing critical thinking and real-world problem-solving. Among these, five teams were selected to continue in the competition, with Army-Baylor's Team Troop Care – Lt. Cmdr. Liliana Russell, Capt. Dylon Bowman and Maj. James Twitchell – earning the title of Best in Category for the Transforming Access to Care category, securing an automatic spot in the final round and a $2,000 scholarship! Teams Empower Vision (Lt. Col. Kourtney Logan, Capt. Alex Cardenas and Ensign Jestoni Jarquio), Root Rx (Maj. Les Armstrong, Ensign James Owens and Maj. Kevin Simmons), DoseyDo (Lt. Col. Aaron Fielden, Maj. Bethany Gurba and Maj. Joshua Milton) and Team Fitagotchi (Capt. Alex Campos, Capt. Javier Najera and Maj. Dan Johnson) advanced to the Elevate Round. Their hard work, which began in the Army-Baylor second-semester Marketing class, involved extensive late-night efforts, demonstrating the discipline and commitment that define our students.
Finally, congratulations to John Miller, Maj. Dominique Scutella and Lt. Cmdr. Liliana Russell for their outstanding representation of the Army-Baylor MHA/MBA program at the UAB Health Administration Case Competition, hosted by the University of Alabama at Birmingham. This year’s case presented a challenging problem that required students to collaborate and apply strategic problem-solving skills. Their exceptional pitch demonstrated professionalism, poise and dedication, underscoring their commitment to excellence. More than 40 universities participated, and Army-Baylor’s ability to compete at this level speaks to the caliber of our students and the strength of our program.
The Army-Baylor MHA/MBA program is incredibly proud of all participating students for their hard work, dedication and outstanding representation of the program at the national level.
