Christian Leadership and Ethics
Our mission in Christian Leadership and Ethics (CL&E) is to “equip principled leaders, at Baylor and beyond, to fulfill their calling.” We create and run programs that help students, alumni and other stakeholders identify and live out their vocational calling as well as to grow as leaders who exemplify and communicate the importance of values and ethics. We believe it is imperative for Christian leaders to offer a distinct, Christian voice when it comes to leadership in business. We offer a unique perspective within higher education by aiming to root our leadership development programs in the truth of God’s word. By doing so, participants can grow in their Christian faith and as leaders uniquely skilled for current and future leadership opportunities.
Christian Leadership in Business Scholarship Program
Annually, 35-45 students representing every major in the Hankamer School of Business (HSB) participate in a yearlong Christian leadership development program. Faculty walk students through Biblical models of leadership based on Ephesians 4:1-3 and Matthew 5:11-16. In addition to hearing from Christian leaders who are brought to campus to speak to the cohort, every Christian Leadership in Business (CLB) student is paired with a leader who is actively seeking to live their calling as an ambassador for Christ in the marketplace. Each cohort also gets to spend time connecting to one another as well as growing and being challenged at our annual CLB retreat.
Armes Family Christian Leadership in Business Summit
Held at the Paul L. Foster Campus for Business and Innovation each May, this two-day summit is designed to encourage and equip Christian leaders in the marketplace. The foundation for this event is that as Christians, we are “the light of the world” (Matthew 5:14-16) and it is imperative we take that mindset into our roles as business leaders. The event includes engaging and highly accomplished keynote speakers, breakout sessions with award-winning HSB faculty and opportunities for networking with others who are seeking to grow as Christian leaders. For more information and to register for the upcoming Summit, visit baylor.edu/armes.
Dale P. Jones Business Ethics Forum
Each year, the CL&E office hosts this multiweek event designed to help business students grow in their ethical awareness, beliefs and decision-making. The forum includes multiple keynote speakers, a young alumni panel and three different case competitions, including a national MBA Case Competition in Ethical Leadership which features 12 universities each year. The forum touches more than 1,000 undergraduate students and more than 100 MBA students each year.
Baylor Business: on Mission
The CL&E office organizes and shepherds multiple mission trips. Each trip is designed to allow students to use their business skills in a meaningful way to produce results for business owners or organizations. HSB faculty lead these trips in partnership with local host organizations or churches in locations including Amsterdam, Barcelona, Zambia, Guatemala and Belize.
All CL&E programs are possible due to the generosity of a number of stakeholders over the years. If you would like to learn more about any of these programs or how you can contribute, you can contact the Director Matt Quade, PhD. If you would like to make a one-time donation to support the ongoing programs of the CL&E office, you can do so at the Christian Leadership and Ethics Giving page.
