A Day in the Life of Army-Baylor MHA/MBA Students
The day begins early for many Army-Baylor MHA/MBA students. Before the first class at 0800, some are already engaged in physical training, while others meet in study groups, preparing for the challenges of the day. As the classroom fills with students, the atmosphere is lively with chatter, laughter and discussions about the week’s events.
Once class begins, faculty members deliver engaging lectures, encouraging active participation and critical thinking. Our cohort comprises professionals from various military branches and healthcare sectors that bring unique blends of cultural, social and personal histories that enrich the group's dynamic – engaging in spirited discussions about ethical dilemmas in healthcare, cutting-edge advancements in digital health and essential organizational behavior theories. These conversations are not just theoretical; they are practical discussions that will shape our roles as future healthcare administrators.
Beyond the classroom, our experience is enriched by incredible opportunities to tour local industries, emergency management agencies and healthcare organizations. These site visits provide firsthand insights into best practices, innovative healthcare delivery models and crisis response strategies. Each tour reinforces our classroom learning and offers networking opportunities with industry leaders.
We are also privileged to hear from multiple executive-level, highly experienced and nationally recognized guest speakers. Their stories of leadership, innovation and resilience motivate and inspire us to become transformative leaders in military healthcare. Their real-world experiences bridge the gap between academia and practical application, leaving a lasting impact on our cohort.
Lunchtime, a wonderful time for connection for the students, offers a brief respite to recharge before returning to an afternoon filled with more coursework and interactive learning. Evenings are often dedicated to family time, studying and strengthening the bonds within our cohort. Many of us spend time together outside of class, whether studying in groups, exploring the local area, or dominating at the weekly trivia night.
The Army-Baylor MHA/MBA program brings together professionals from the Army, Air Force, Navy, Coast Guard, Veterans Affairs and the Defense Health Agency. Despite our varied backgrounds, we share a common goal: to become skilled healthcare administrators who can drive meaningful change. The program not only equips us with knowledge but also fosters strong, lasting connections. As we prepare to graduate, we leave not just as individuals, but as a cohesive group ready to lead and enhance the military healthcare system for the future.
