Apply early.

“The earlier you go through the admissions process, the sooner you can start preparing for the program,” she said. “This includes any necessary prep work for the Baylor MBA in Dallas, and also making plans with your employer and family to be set up for success.”

Get your recommenders on board early. 

“Supervisors and mentors are great people to ask to write your letters of recommendation,” she said. “Speak with them early in the process so they will be well prepared when they receive a request for the letter of recommendation.”

Having the right recommender is also important. Friends and religious leaders are fine for bachelor’s programs or jobs early in one’s career, but not for an MBA designed for executives and working professionals. 

“Due to the Baylor MBA in Dallas program having such a career focus, applicants should include recommenders who can speak to their professional experience,” Basden said. “A current supervisor would be a top choice. Previous supervisors, clients, professional mentors or coworkers would also make a strong list.” 

Build a resume that tells your story.

Potential enrollees need not limit their resumé to one page. Enhance your profile by showing not only your education, but your career progression, promotions received, successful projects, and managerial experience. 

“If you are still early in your career, be sure to include any undergrad or previous graduate school experiences that will show your outside-the-classroom experience,” Basden said. “Think: campus clubs and organizations, internships, community involvement, along with leadership roles they have held in civic organizations, international exposure, and concentrations.”

Applicants who have been at the same company for multiple years should list all the roles they have held (with a description) within that organization so that advisors and enrollment counselors can see their promotions and career advancement. Each role listed should include duties and responsibilities assigned, whether they managed a team of people, a budget, etc. 

Applicants should note: The Baylor MBA in Dallas has no GMAT/GRE requirement since a minimum of three years of professional work experience is preferred instead.

Use your essay to make a strong first impression.

Essays are a great way to express your individuality while letting the admissions team get to know you better. 

“The optional essay is an opportunity for you to provide any additional information about yourself that we should consider when reviewing your application,” Basden said. 

Lay out your career goals and show how the MBA in Dallas supports that pursuit. Explain your unique perspective and experiences, including information about your personal interests that make you you. 

Basden says that a good essay will clearly detail “the why?”, such as “Why do they want to get an MBA now? What is their career goal and how does the MBA in Dallas help them achieve it?” 

Prospective students who had a low GPA (anything under 3.0) should use the additional optional essay to address circumstances that contributed to this, as well as their plan for a different approach as a graduate student. Gaps in work experience or current unemployment can be explained in the additional optional essay.

The essay doesn’t have to be as long as a memoir; most are about one or one-and-a-half pages. Applicants do not need to submit this optional essay if they feel it adds nothing to their resumé.

For prospective students who fly in for a visit, Dallas/Fort Worth Airport and Dallas Love Field are within a relatively short driving distance from our campus.”
