About
The Technology Center originated as the Casey Computer Center, founded in 1962 when Mr. and Mrs. Carl Casey generously provided the original technology equipment for Hankamer School of Business. With the move to the Foster Campus for Business and Innovation in the summer of 2015, Casey Computer Center became the Technology Center. Since the time it first opened, the Center has provided excellent service and state-of-the-art equipment for students, faculty and staff in the Hankamer School of Business. To provide the best service to all of its users, the Technology Center functions as a separate department, reporting directly to Dean Sandeep Mazumder.
At the heart of our services lies the expansive Technology Commons, a resource-rich hub that serves as a cornerstone of our commitment to meeting the needs of faculty and students. Within the Technology Commons, you'll discover an impressive array of offerings, including 85 computers tailored to various specialized capabilities. These include essential tools like Bloomberg terminals, business automation and data analytics software, statistical software, and a host of leading business applications such as SAP and SAS. Additionally, we provide a dedicated lab space in Room 202, equipped with 44 computers and privacy shades, suitable for use as a supplementary computer lab or research area.
Moreover, the Technology Commons houses three high-speed monochrome laser printers and a color laser printer, ensuring seamless access to top-tier printing facilities for our students.
Beyond what was already mentioned, our dedicated Technology Center team meticulously maintains a wide spectrum of software applications. This commitment extends to the continuous assessment and integration of updated versions and the incorporation of cutting-edge software innovations. This dedication ensures that our faculty and students consistently benefit from the latest technological advancements.
For added convenience, the Technology Center extends its support to the second floor, where 12 computers are available, complemented by a readily accessible printer designed for student use.
On the third floor, our specialized kiosk area is tailored to meet the unique needs of our Business students. Here, we provide and support eight computers equipped with specialized HSB software, including four with exclusive Bloomberg terminal access. To enhance the learning experience, the 3rd-floor kiosk is equipped with a printer for students' convenience.
Lastly, on the 4th floor, we offer a general access printer, ensuring that all students have the printing resources they need to succeed.
To enhance the classroom experience for both students and faculty, the Center has equipped every classroom in the School with computers, projectors, TV monitors, Apple TVs, Solstice wireless presentation systems, document cameras and AMX or Extron control systems. In addition, each of our classrooms have both lecture capture and video conferencing capabilities. Other classrooms have computers for each student enrolled in the class. The Center also provides support for specialized classrooms within the School: the Hodges Financial Market Center, the Sports Sponsorship and Sales Classroom and Call Center, The Advanced Technology Learning Lab, the Digital Media Lab and the Analytics Lab.
We also extend our support to the Foster Campus and its students, where we manage 36 reservable team rooms, each equipped with displays and laptop connections for collaborative work.
All areas of the School have access to WiFi, whether it be AIRBEAR for students, staff and faculty, EDUROAM for partner university guests, or BU-GUEST for any university guest. This allows everyone to stay connected anywhere on the Foster campus.
While the Technology Center is responsible for meeting the technology needs of the students, it also provides technology support for the faculty and staff. Each faculty/staff member has a Windows-based or Apple computer connected to the University network.
Faculty, Staff and Students also benefit from the technology we provide in the Foster Conference Center, encompassing rooms 143, 144, 240 and 250. From basic microphone setups to full-scale on-site audio/video presentations, the Technology Center lends its expertise to ensure smooth event experiences.
In addition, we equip and support technology in 15 conference rooms scattered throughout the Foster campus. These rooms are outfitted with displays, computers, wireless presentation tools, cameras and more.
Furthermore, we manage 48 digital signage computers, displays, and associated hardware. This includes an 85" interactive display and a state-of-the-art video wall measuring nearly 12 feet in width and 7 feet in height.
The Technology Center also provides expert consultation, analysis and support for various websites, web forms, web integrations, data analysis and support for school accreditation (AACSB), and Salesforce support and integrations for Graduate-level programs.
To stay ahead in supporting this vast array of technology and to provide the best possible service, the Technology Center provides resources for immediate response, proactive support and strategic consultation. Whether you're facing challenges in the classroom, seeking support for technology integration in your teaching and research endeavors, requiring access to wireless networks, assistance with printer-related matters, or any other technology-related needs, rest assured that the Technology Center is at your service and ready to provide assistance. We look forward to working with you!
