Experiential Learning
Global Health Immersion/International Trip
Robbins Healthcare MBA students participate in a global health immersion/international trip in the fall semester. This immersive experience involves visits with public, private, and governmental healthcare organizations as well as with businesses in other industries. Students also engage in several cultural experiences. The global nature of the visit allows students to observe cross-cultural differences in healthcare delivery as well as in management and leadership. Previous locations include San Jose, Costa Rica and Barcelona, Spain.
ACHE Congress on Healthcare Leadership
In the 1st year spring semester, Robbins Healthcare MBA students attend the annual American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE) Congress on Healthcare Leadership, the largest gathering of healthcare executives in the Nation. Students have the opportunity to interact with both senior executives and other students through a variety of networking events and educational sessions led by industry experts.
Site Visits
In the fall and spring semesters, students participate in site visits to local healthcare organizations. This practical learning experience allows students to gain firsthand insights into operations within a hospital setting. During the site visits, students are required to rotate through different departments. Students then prepare a written report on their observations and present their findings in a formal presentation to the class.
Case Competitions
All students participate in the Hankamer School of Business Ethics Case Competition in the fall and an internal case competition in Healthcare Finance in the spring. Selected students also participate in four to five national case competitions including the University of Alabama (UAB) Health Administration Case Competition, the Trinity University Healthcare PRISm Pitch Competition, the Business School Alliance for Health Management (BAHM) Case Competition, the Ohio State University First-Year Healthcare Case Competition, and the National Association of Health Services Executives (NAHSE) Case Competition.
